Gratitude During A Pandemic

For some, Gratitude is probably the last word that comes to mind when reflecting on 2020. 2020 was a year of clarity and reality. There is a viral pandemic that shut down the entire country, a presidency that shook the nation, and to top it off, the world is under siege by climate change. Without a doubt, we are going through a callous time right now, and although it may be hard to express ourselves or connect with one another during a time like this, we require each other’s good spirit and love more than ever. I want this to be a reminder to us all that better days are coming and use Gratitude as a tool to manifest and attract the life we want and deserve.
Here are ways to increase your consciousness and start spreading Gratitude!
Check-in on your loved ones.
Schedule at least two facetime calls a week with a friend or family member you have not spoken with for some time or someone who can lift your spirits. Pick up that phone and reach out to someone. You have the power to change someone’s day!
Keep a journal. Write some affirmations and jot down the things you’re thankful for.
Journaling can be therapeutic. It helps you gain mental and emotional clarity. Start your morning off by writing down the things that you are thankful for and your potential accomplishments for the day. It can be as simple as “I am thankful for the air that I breathe.”
Smile at a stranger.
This is one of my favorite acts of Gratitude. If given a chance, while running your errands or on your way to work, smile at a stranger even if they seem to be having an alright day. It’s one of the best feelings in the world when you see a stranger’s face light up just because you smiled at them. You never know; your act of kindness may be the highlight of their day.
Taoism, a Chinese philosophy, states that smiling to yourself also has its benefits. Smiling at oneself increases happiness and longevity. Smiling with others, and you can increase your harmony with the universe and within yourself.
Do something for you. Anything that makes you happy and brings you peace.
Go to the gym, take frequent vacations, pamper yourself, or purchase a new book just because. I love taking myself out for a nice meal and then rewarding myself with the sweet scent of a new book from Barnes & Noble. Be your own best friend.
Although it currently seems like there isn’t much to be grateful for, this is the time for us to come together as one and show more love and Gratitude. The world is filled with enough chaos; the least we can do to ease the pain for one another is to show more appreciation. May your New Year be filled with light and love.
