Thief of Fates

Thief of Fates

By: Maya Mascoll

My hands start to sweat and I

feel a tightness in my chest.

There’s something about facing my fears

that makes me instantly destressed.

Am I afraid because I know I won’t win?

Or is there another reason there’s this turmoil within?

I have the heart of a warrior, unless I am faced

with the very things that cause my mind to race.

I have normal fears, of spiders and dogs and of shadows in the dark

but I do also fear being alone and forgotten and leaving the world without a mark.

You see fear is just a tool,

something that’s real and innate,

yet we must be aware because

fear can steal our fate.
